The Labrador Retriever is an excellent family dog. They are very friendly. Labrador Retrievers are not really suited to guard work because of their friendly natures.
The Labrador can be black, yellow or chocolate. All colours are popular and are equally accepted by the breed's standard.
The Labrador is a muscular and solid dog; he is slightly longer than he is tall. They have a slight water resistant double coat. The Labrador has a broad head and fake nose in the eyes are chestnut or hazel and the ears are medium pendant sized ears.
Labradors are very easy dogs to train as they love to please. Training should start early as possible. This breed learns quickly and can, with training, be easy to handle. Train them not to pull on their lead as they are a very strong breed and can drag their owners. Like all dogs they need to be taught to sit and stay and other basic commands for the comfort of their owner and the safety of the dog.
Labrador Retrievers are excellent at obedience, hunting, retrieving, tracking, police work, drug detection, search and rescue, agility, and many other things. Labradors are commonly used as guide dogs for the blind and are probably the most favoured breed for this work.
The Labrador is one of several kinds of retriever, retrievers being gundogs. They are commonly used for retrieving in the field. The Labrador is probably the most popular breed of dog in the world, and certainly the most popular in America and the UK . They are exceptionally affable, gentle, intelligent, energetic and good natured. Labradors make excellent companions, are faithful and have a high level of tolerance for children.
They do require training and have the capacity to be very boisterous. Labrador Retrievers respond well to praise and positive attention, and are very food orientated. . With training, the Labrador is one of the most dependable, obedient and multi-talented breeds in the world.
